The Soak Standard

Judged by a man who has soaked in close to 1,000 hotels.

Jason Manning has traveled to more than 120 countries and stayed in close to 1,000 hotels across nearly a decade working in the tourist industry. He founded PoolsideStays from the New York metropolitan area to do one thing full time: judge hotels by the water in the room. Every listing is scored on jet power, two-person fit, privacy, heat hold and room integration, and backed by a research team of data scientists who call and email properties to confirm the amenity is real. Know your tub

A jetted tub is not a jacuzzi is not a soak

The original

Jetted soaking tub

Water jets, deep shell, built for a long evening. The room type to hunt for couples' weekends.

Our take: this is the one worth paying for.

The classic

Whirlpool bath

The hotel-standard jetted bath, shallower, air-and-water jets, fine for one, snug for two.

Our take: good, if the room names it exactly.

The quiet one

Soaking tub

No jets, all depth. Silent, hot, and honest, if the water heater keeps up.

Our take: underrated, when it's genuinely deep.
